School of Visual Arts (SVA)
EPIC has maintained a long-standing working relationship with the School of Visual Arts (SVA) since 2018, beginning with the inspection of an MEP fit-out on the 6th floor of 205 East 23rd Street. Since that initial project, EPIC has performed inspections on more than 45 projects across nearly all of SVA’s New York City buildings.
Our work with SVA spans a wide range of project types, including full-floor fit-outs, HVAC system replacements, structural repairs, façade work, and major building service upgrades. This ongoing partnership reflects EPIC’s ability to support both renovation and infrastructure projects across an active academic campus.
Representative Projects
133 West 21st Street – Animation Department Relocation
EPIC provided TR1 and TR8 inspections for the relocation of SVA’s Animation Department from the 2nd floor to the 6th floor of 133 West 21st Street. The 8,000 SF renovation included new animation and computer labs, staff offices, drawing studios, and conference rooms. Inspections covered mechanical, plumbing, sprinkler, firestopping, and electrical TR1 and TR8 inspections, as well as structural steel work related to new roof dunnage installations.
132 West 21st Street – Fire Escape Repairs
At 132 West 21st Street, EPIC performed structural inspections for repairs to the exterior fire escape extending from the ground floor to the parapet. During construction, discrepancies between the approved shop drawings and field conditions were identified. EPIC documented these discrepancies and coordinated directly with the structural engineer to obtain approval prior to final sign-off.
17 Gramercy Park – Gas Removal and Building Systems Upgrades
EPIC provided comprehensive inspection services for major building infrastructure upgrades at 17 Gramercy Park, an SVA student residence. The project included full removal of the gas service, HVAC upgrades, installation of heat pump domestic hot water systems, new passenger elevators, and expanded electrification throughout the building. Inspections addressed mechanical, plumbing, sprinkler, structural stability and details, fire-resistance construction and firestopping, and electrical TR1 and TR8 inspections.
Ongoing Partnership
Through years of collaboration, EPIC has supported SVA across a diverse portfolio of projects, ensuring code compliance, construction quality, and coordination across disciplines. This breadth of experience allows EPIC to adapt inspection services to the evolving needs of educational facilities in New York City.
